Many people are feared dead in a tribal strife between Waja and Lunguda communities in Lamurde area in Adamawa State.
Residents of Lafiya village told Daily Trust that violence started on Tuesday night after Waja community discovered three bodies of its members who were allegedly killed by Lunguda people and dumped on a farm.
“Members of the two tribes have been having a long standing land dispute which has now aggravated to clash with this incident,” a resident, Oscar said.
Spokesman of the Adamawa police command, SP Othman Abubakar, confirmed the death of one person in the clash, saying normalcy had since been restored in the area following deployment of security personnel.
Othman however said that no arrest had been made.
The state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ahmad Sajoh, said government had directed the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) to provide relief for the displaced victims, saying military, police and civil defense operatives have been deployed to the area.
